More help for the non-Danes

2nd English summary of the dramatic events on "Arnold and Spedtsberg":

The mid-twenties can be a confusing age: Hanne is feeling old, since people in Canada actually start studying while they’re young, while Stine is feeling like a teenager; drinking hot chocolate on the beach at night, taking pictures of horses, and making mix-tapes for boys she’s just met.

Despite her fear of speed and cars, Stine impressed her driving instructor on her first driving lesson. On her second driving lesson though, she scared the shit out of her driving instructor, so her actual skills behind the wheel are yet unclear. Luckily for the rest of the citizens of Århus, Danish law requires that you take A LOT of lessons before you’re cut loose on the roads.

In Canada, Hanne has realized that she’s not in Canada at all; she’s in QUEBEC. Among other things it means that she is now addicted to maple sirup, which by the way goes with literally anything, according to the Quebecois people: pancakes, potatoes, eggs, ham, soup, snow etc. She has also discovered the joys of peanut butter and jelly, but will never like it more than licorice. Sorry, North America.

After months with snow and temperatures down to –30 C, it seems to be getting warmer in Montreal, though the locals are warning that winter will not be over so gently so soon. Hanne looks forward to leaving the house without looking like the Michelin man, but would like to go ice skating again; especially since she has bought her own skates.

Stine has gotten more familiar with her fancy camera (after finding the ”on” button) and has spent the past two months taking pictures of girls with butterflies in their hair and horses; lots and lots of horses. Hanne is starting to worry about finals, but has apparently learned to bullshit; the secret of academic survival, according to her friends.

Against all odds, Hanne is still with the yankee and has even made a trip with him to the big city in his home state. She was very impressed with all the tall, shiny buildings and yellow cabs, and relieved that she was let into the country despite its paranoia (she made sure to not mention the word ”socialism”) and that she wasn’t arrested for any ”immoral actions,” whatever that means.

Stine thought for a little while that she was dating a guy, but it turned out that they were "friends". She wonders if it was her enthusiasm for ”Groomer’s has it” (a reality show on Animal Planet about pet stylists, which Hanne is also a fan of) that scared him off. In any case, she has now met a guy with a beard who likes to make soup. Very promising.

Stine and Hanne are both afraid of beautiful boys, so their business idea about importing amazing Canadian men has not really kicked off yet.

Next on ”Arnold and Spedtsberg”:

Will spring ever come to Montreal or will Hanne have all summer to realize her dream of making an ice sculpture on her balcony? Will she pass her finals and begin to ship maple sirup-boys to Denmark? Will Stine ever be allowed to drive a car on her own? Will she take photographs that do not look like something from a fairy tale? And what has she been doing with truckers on the highways of Europe for a whole week?
